Catalogue of the Officers and Students in Yale College 1855-1856

$65.00

The challenges of acquiring a good education have always existed, In the mid-1850s Yale College was a place that many students aspired to as a place for advanced learning. The "Catalogue of the Officers and Students in Yale College. 1855-56" served not only as a complete listing of those officers, faculty and students at Yale, but also listed all the schools in the College, along with brief discussions of their curriculum, requirements, expenses and other matters of interest to both students and prospective students. The course descriptions are fascinating, and the costs are enviable when compared to today's all too common budget-breaking expenses. The schools listed as being part of Yale College are the Theological Department, Law Department, Medical Department, Department of Philosophy and the Arts, and Academical Department.

The Catalogue, which measures approximately 5 1/2 x 9 inches, contains 58 pages in soft paper covers. It was printed for the College by Ezekial Hayes in New Haven in 1855. The pages are very slightly tanned, with text that is clear and easily read. The covers show some evidence of wear, with a hand written inscription on the front and slight soiling and dirt on the back. The overall condition of the booklet is very good.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the front cover and four 2-page spreads with typical examples of information provided in the booklet.
