This 4-page undated paper, "Extracts from the American Slave Code" (Second Edition of 10,000), was published in about 1855 by The Anti-Slavery Bugle of Salem, Ohio. The Anti-Slavery Bugle was an abolitionist newspaper published in Ohio from June 20, 1845, to May 4, 1861. The paper's motto was "No Union with Slaveholders". In this issue of the paper, the editors provide abridged selections from the statutes of the slave states of the United States, while noting that “They give but a faint view of the cruel oppression to which the slaves are subject, but a strong one enough, it is thought, to fill every honest heart with a deep abhorrence of the atrocious system”.

The paper, which measures approximately 5 ½ inches wide by 8 ¾ inches tall, is without covers and has slightly tanned pages. The text, although small, is clear and easily read. The overall condition of the item is very good.
